Maruni Dress
The “Maruni dress” refers to the vibrant and elaborate attire worn by dancers during the Maruni dance, one of the oldest and most popular folk dances of Nepal. While it originated with the Magar community, it has been adopted and performed by various other communities across Nepal, including Gurung, Kirat, and Khas, as well as Nepalese diaspora communities in India (Sikkim, Darjeeling, Assam), Bhutan, and Myanmar.
The dress is characterized by its colorful and ornate nature, designed to be visually captivating for a performance that often celebrates the victory of good over evil (especially during festivals like Dashain and Tihar).
